Centre
has cleared the SC Collegium’s  proposal to elevate Uttarakhand High Court Chief
Justice K M Joseph as a Supreme Court judge. In the last month, Centre had
shown categorical disapproval to Joseph’s name citing the reason that there
were adequate number of judges from Kerala. Â The Centre was also arguing
that the there is need to give adequate representation to judges from SC and ST
category. This controversy continued for couple of months but the issue seems
to have settled now. SC Collegium’s recommendation has been approved by
the Centre. Sources said that
the law ministry has started the process of appointment of Justice Joseph. In
addition, the appointment of Chief Justice of Madras High Court Indira Banerjee
and Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran may also be cleared
for the position of SC Judge. ![]()
