[caption id="attachment_3307" align="aligncenter" width="348"]                           Justice Amitava Roy[/caption] Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Amitava Roy may shortly be appointed as Supreme Court Judge. The collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India H L Dattu, zeroed down on Justice Roy's name last week which further sent its recommendation to the Law Ministry. Chief Justice of Madras HC Justice S K Kaul and Chief Justice of Delhi HC Justice G Rohini were also in the contention for elevation as SC Judge. The names of the chief justices of the High Courts of MP, Bombay and Calcutta were also discussed but only Justice Roy's name was approved for recommendation because the collegium failed to arrive at a consensus on the rest. Justice Amitava Roy was appointed Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in July 2014 after its former chief justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was elevated to the Supreme Court. Prior that he was elevated as Judge of the Gawahati High Court in 2002 and was appointed as Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court in January 2013.
