The recent PESB move of introducing the provisions for withdrawing applications from its online portal has raised eyebrows. Some see the move as a ploy to favor some candidates in the selection process.
In the beginning of this year the PESB made many changes to its guidelines and also made mandatory the filling of applications online.
Earlier, a candidate was permitted to appear four times for interview in a calendar year and the attempts were counted only if he attends the interview. However, the procedure stands changed; now the counting is done if a candidate gets shortlisted irrespective of appearance/non-appearance at interview.
In this changed scenario, it often becomes a dilemma for candidates to pick up the right posts to apply as PESB advertises the posts in bulk.
Now after the introduction of the withdrawal system, a candidate who may have the inside information about the other candidates who have applied for any particular post, may opt to withdraw from that post and look for other alternatives.
So, in the fitness of things, If PESB wants to create a level-playing field for all candidates, it should make the system fully transparent by allowing every candidate to know about all other applications so that one can apply judiciously.
