In the backdrop of post-Pahalgam-terror-attack and India’s befitting response to Pakistan in the form of Operation Sindoor, country’s cyber preparedness has become critically important than ever before. It posed threats to the security, military, police and intelligence installations of the country but India dealt with them with full dexterity including calling out disinformation. 

Preparedness is the key to deal with such situations as in a very resolute move to strengthen national cyber defence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in September 2024 the launch of a flagship initiative to train and deploy 5,000 Cyber Commandos over the next five years. This elite force will serve as the frontline of India’s cyber resilience—ready to detect, respond, and neutralize sophisticated digital threats across the nation’s critical infrastructure. Cyber Commandos will tackle cyber threats and secure India's digital landscape.

These Cyber Commandos will be embedded across CBI, NIA, state police forces, and enforcement agencies, bringing advanced capabilities in digital forensics, cyber fraud detection, malware analysis, and network monitoring.

•⁠  ⁠Training involves real attack simulations, not just predictable open-source scenarios vulnerable to basic intrusion.

•⁠  ⁠A cloud-based Cyber Range enables continuous upgrades, real-time patching, and a dynamic training environment—moving beyond traditional on-premise labs with static configurations.

This programme is supported by integrated platforms like the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, National Cybercrime Suspect Registry, and Samanvay—driving real-time intelligence sharing and rapid response mechanisms.
