Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Gurbachan Singh (IPS:1984:OR) may be appointed as Director General (Investigation) in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). This post has been surprisingly vacant since May this year following the retirement of P V K Reddy (Retd IPS:1982:TR).
The long-pending vacancy had fueled speculations that the govt might be wanting to place its choicest officer Sharad Kumar (Ex NIA Chief) on the job.
Reportedly, the process of appointment of Gurbachan Singh is almost complete and a notification may be issued any time this month. Currently, Singh is serving in the Intelligence Bureau.
