Making a departure from its decision dated June 25 the Union Govt on June 30 given the additional charge of the post Chairman & MD to Saraswati Prasad (IAS:1985:AM) on retirement of incumbent P K Singh. Prasad currently serves as Special Secretary & Financial Adviser, Ministry of Steel. It may be underlined that Ministry of Steel had, on 25 June 2018, issued a notification assigning the additional charge of SAIL top post to Anil Kumar Chaudhary (Director- Finance, SAIL) for a period of three months but within four days there was a U-turn on its decision. It may be mentioned that public-sector headhunter (PESB) had, in March 2018, recommended the name of A K Chaudhary for the top post of state-run SAIL. It was expected that the ACC would clear the appointment of A K Chaudhary as SAIL CMD but following the June 30 order power corridors are abuzz of various speculations as what exactly prompted the government for a U-turn.
