Kolkata (28.12.2023): B P Gopalika (IAS: 1989: WB), the current home secretary of the state, would take over as the new chief secretary of West Bengal after the tenure of incumbent H.K. Dwivedi comes to an end on December 31, 2023. Mamata Banerjee informed the state cabinet. Mamata had to appoint Gopalika after the Centre rejected a plea from her government to give another six-month extension to Dwivedi.Gopalika holds the home department and personnel and administrative reforms department portfolios currently. Gopalika will remain chief secretary till May 31, 2024, if he does not get his tenure extended like Dwivedi, who in June got a six-month extension.Also Read
