good-luck-navjot-but-why-did-you-do-this The departure of Navjot Singh Sidhu from the BJP may not shock and awe its leadership which, like all its political competitors, has come to believe in a supremo culture. But it's a terrible blow to its ego for sure and breaks open its fault-lines once again. If the blunder of 2014 was not enough that made the BJP replace the well-known cricket player, humorist, and two-term winner from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 with a humorless lawyer, Arun Jaitley, who couldn't but lose, it wanted to dump Sidhu into the Ministry of Minority Affairs after nominating him to the Rajya Sabha. This was simply not acceptable to Sidhu, who is young and energetic enough to desire to be projected as next CM of Punjab in case the BJP-SAD alliance wins the next Punjab Assembly elections. This desire or ambition also ran into conflict with the dynastic approach of the Badal family. So Sidhu's nomination to the Rajya Sabha was seen as an unintelligent ploy to remove him from the Punjab scene. If Sidhu saw it the same way as most of the people perceived his nomination to the RS, he can't be faulted. And he has found his mooring in the AAP. Good luck, Navjot, have a nice ride.
