An unusual development made its way in the last days of July even as a new month was to course its way. The PESB had scheduled a selection interview for the post of Director (Marketing) for GAIL. 15 candidates were selected and called before the public sector headhunter (PESB). Reportedly, by Saturday evening candidates were informed telephonically about the cancellation but by that time many candidates were on the way to Delhi to attend the interview.
Power corridors are abuzz with what caused this embarrassing situation for the PESB.
Indianmandarins learnt that A K Manchanda, an Executive Director (Marketing) in GAIL, represented that he was senior to E S Ranganathan (ED, GAIL) - a short-listed candidate who appeared 9th on the list of shortlisted candidates.
This made the GAIL top management argue before the PESB Chairman and further before the Petroleum Secretary against Manchanda's claim. It's learnt that the PESB Chairman and the P&NG secretary were not convinced with the way GAIL failed to provide a well-defined seniority list and left avenues for such an unwarranted embarrassing situation. This compelled the PESB to postpone the board interview which was earlier scheduled for 27 July and was postponed until 1 August.
