The MHA is said to be seriously concerned over a sharp decline in drug seizure by Narcotics Control Bureau (under MHA) compared to previous years. Even though it's pressuring NCB to improve its functioning, the fact remains that the Bureau could do precious little as four out of its five DDG posts are lying vacant for some time. Even the field formations of the Bureau are short of human resources and equipment, let alone modern devices for tracking and seizing the illicit drugs. NCB's South Western Region is headless; and so is Eastern Region (DDG, ER). Posts of DDG HQ and DDG Operations, too, are vacant. Two of these posts fell vacant on 12 March after Vijaya Kumar (IPS:1987:TN) and Ranjan Kumar Sahu (IRS C&CE:1986) completed their tenure. The posts of DDG Operations and DDG Headquarters are vacant since 01 April 2015 and 01 July 2015.
