New Delhi (21.10.2024):Sanjay Kumar Verma (IFS: 1988), former High Commissioner of India to Canada who was recalled by New Delhi last week, has denied any involvement in the killing of pro-Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. On the contrary, he said, the way Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is handling the issue, it has destroyed bilateral political relations between the two nations.
Earlier Verma Served as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Before being sent to Canada, he served as Ambassador of India to Japan and the Marshall Islands.
Verma condemned killing of Nijjar and when asked if he had anything to do with it, he said: "Nothing at all. No evidence was presented. This is politically motivated." Trudeau's decision to blame India for Nijjar's killing was based on intelligence information rather than concrete and credible evidence.
"On the basis of intelligence, if you want to destroy a relationship, be my guest. And that's what he [Trudeau] did," Verma added. He further emphasised the importance of staying informed about the actions of pro-Khalistani groups in Canada, as it aligns with India's national interests.
