The Government of India today announced former DoPT Secretary Bhanu Pratap Sharma (IAS:1981:BH) as the next Chairman of Bank Board Bureau (BBB) for a period of two years. He will succeed the very first Chariman of BBB Vinod Rai.
Sharma served with DOPT as Establishment Officer before he was made Union Health Secretary. Later he was appointed to the post of DoPT Secretary.
He retired from the post of DoPT Secretary on 30 June 2017.
Sharma will be eligible for the same mandates as it was offered to former chairman, said Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Kumar.
The other members of the BBB are: Vedika Bhandarkar (former MD Credit Suisse India), P Pradeep Kumar (former MD SBI) and Pradip P Shah (founder MD Crisil).
The Bureau was set up by the government in 2016 as a body of eminent professionals and officials, replacing the Appointments Board for the appointment of Whole-time Directors as well as non-Executive Chairman of PSBs.
