Kolkata (25.06.2026): The West Bengal Government has appointed Dr Krishna Gupta (IAS: 1991: WB), Additional Chief Secretary, Co-Operation Department, Government of West Bengal, as the next State Election Commissioner. He will take over as the SEC after superannuating from the service on June 30, 2026.The appointment has been made under Article 243K(1) of the Constitution, read with the provisions of the West Bengal State Election Commission Act, 1994. The State Election Commission is responsible for conducting elections to panchayats and urban local bodies across West Bengal.
