New Delhi (25.06.2026): As the incumbent dispensation has the propensity to keep competent officers in the service as long as possible, the Centre has given nine-months’ extension to Alok Sharma (IPS: 1991: UP), Director, Special Protection Group (SPG) i.e. up to 31.03.2027.His extension has been approved in relaxation of FR 56 (d) and the All India Service (Death-cum-retirement Benefit) Rules 1958. Sharma was appointed as the Director of the SPG, the elite security unit responsible for the Prime Minister's security, on November 18, 2023 which works directly under the Cabinet Secretariat.
