Hyderabad (26.06.2026): In a major administrative reset aimed at long-term bureaucratic stability, the Anumula Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government on Friday appointed senior bureaucrat Sanjay Jaju (IAS: 1992: TG) as the state’s next Chief Secretary. He will take over from A Ramakrishna Rao, the outgoing Chief Secretary, on his retirement on 30th June.
Interestingly, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy appointed Ramarao as Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister on his superannuation on 30th June.
Prior to his return to Hyderabad, Jaju was on Central deputation, serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
The transition comes just three days after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Jaju's premature repatriation to his parent cadre, following an explicit request from the state government.
The Calculus Behind the Selection:
Top bureaucratic sources indicate that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy preferred Jaju over other senior contenders from the same batch—including Shashank Goel (1990), Jayesh Ranjan (1992) and Vikas Raj (1992).
Furthermore, with his retirement scheduled for February 2029, his tenure will extend comfortably beyond the next Assembly elections, offering the Congress administration rare continuity at the apex of the state's bureaucracy. In contrast, his batchmates Ranjan and Raj are set to superannuate in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
