Trivandrum (26.06.2026): In its first major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle since taking office last month, the V. D. Satheesan-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government on Friday notified the appointment of Bishwanath Sinha (IAS: 1992: KL) as the state’s next Chief Secretary.
Sinha will take over from the outgoing Chief Secretary, Dr. A. Jayathilak (IAS: 1991: KL) who is scheduled to superannuate on June 30, 2026.
Key sources say that V. D. Satheesan administration cleared Sinha’s name after a close evaluation. His reputation as a tough and result-oriented administrator with extensive experience across both social welfare and core infrastructure sectors made him the preferred choice for a government eager to hit the ground running on its poll promises.
Sinha currently serves as the Additional Chief Secretary heading the high-profile Home and Vigilance Departments—portfolios he will continue to hold in the interim, according to the official notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).
With his retirement scheduled for September 2028, Sinha's appointment gives the newly formed Congress-led administration a stable, two-year-plus runway at the apex of the state's administrative machinery.
With Sinha taking the helm at the Secretariat on July 1, a subsequent ripple effect of lateral transfers among senior Principal Secretaries and District Collectors is anticipated over the coming week, as the Satheesan administration fully aligns the bureaucracy with its policy priorities.
