Mumbai (02.03.2022): The Maharashtra government has appointed retired bureaucrat Ujwal Uke (Retd IAS:1985:MH) to conduct a departmental probe against the former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh (IPS: 1988: MH). Uke was an additional chief secretary (textiles) and had held several key positions in the administration.
Param Bir Singh was suspended on December 2 last year after the state’s law-enforcing agencies registered offenses against him. He has been booked for extortion, corruption, cheating and under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, Arms Act, and Protection of Civil Rights Act. While the law-enforcing agencies are probing the criminal cases against Singh and the Supreme Court has restrained them from initiating coercive action.
