Madhuri Gupta, an ex-diplomat who served at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad as Second Secretary (Press & Information), was on Saturday sentenced to three years in jail by a Delhi court. Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma gave her the maximum sentence for the offences of spying and wrongful communication of sensitive information, to Pakistan's ISI. She was held guilty of breaching provisions of the Official Secrets (OS) Act.
Though she has been granted bail by the court to allow to appeal against the conviction and the sentence.
She was arrested on 22 April 2010 by the Delhi Police (Special Cell) for allegedly passing on sensitive information to two ISI officials, Mubshar Raza Rana and Jamshed.
