Eight former DGPs
have strongly condemned Sadhwi Pragya’s unfortunate and insulting remarks
referring to the late IPS officer Hemant Karkare who fell to terrorist bullets
on 26/11 (Mumbai terror attacks) in the line of duty while defending his
country. Those former DGs/DGPs
who condemned Sadhwi’s statements are; Julio Ribeiro (former DGP Punjab),
Prakash Singh (former DGP UP Assam and former BSF DG), PKH Tharakan and Jacob Punoose (former DGPs of Kerala),
Kamal Kumar (former NPA DG, Hyderabad), Sanjeev Dayal (former DGP of
Maharashtra), Jayanto N Choudhury (former Assam DGP and former DG of NSG) and N
Ramachandran (former DGP Meghalaya).
While condemning
Sadhwi’s remark these former IPS officers reiterated that had Hemant Karkare
not volunteered to return to the Maharashtra cadre from a plum posting at the
Centre with the specific intention of working with the ATS he would have been
alive today. The country owes him a huge debt of gratitude. Anything that
detracts from this is worthy of strong condemnation.
