Veterinary Surgeon-turned-IAS officer Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary (IAS:JK:2009) is the youngest officer to receive Prime Minister award for excellence in Public Administration in individual category  for Year 2013-2014. Choudhary has got the honour for his initiative 'Jashn-e-Jamhuriat': Reasi-- celebrating democracy-- an election project for combating alienation and increasing inclusive electoral literacy and participation. His efforts further resulted into 81 per cent polling in 2014 elections whereas in 2009 the district had recorded a dismal 43 per cent turn out. The Civil Services Day (April 21-22) not only brought him the prestigious award on April 21 but also blessed him with a 'Baby-girl' on April 22; the concluding day of Civil Service Day. The then DC of Reasi District (currently DC, Kathua, J&K) became the first individual officer from J&K State to receive this honour and marked the event as the youngest officer to receive the award for Year 2013-14.
