New Delhi (10.10.2023): The selection and appointment of CMD in Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) hanged in balance after the public-sector head-hunter, Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), did not arrive at a definitive and logical conclusion.
PESB on Monday announced that “keeping in view the strategic importance & vision for the company (IRFC) and its future, and the performance of the candidates interviewed, the board did not recommend any candidate and advised the ministry of railways to choose an alternative method of selection, including search- cum-selection committee (SCSC)….”
It may be underlined that as against six shortlisted candidates PESB interviewed only three as rest of the candidates chose to abstain. Following the selection and appointment, both in quick succession, of Sanjay Kumar Jain (IRTS: 1990) as CMD, IRCTC it was obvious that he would keep himself out out of the race for IRFC whereas two others took it as their considered decision to abstain that raises curiosity bars.
Interestingly, the first and foremost reason for non-selection, as PESB stated, appeared in sync with the views of some key sources that probably the Centre has some strategic plans that would be crucial as how IRFC would navigate its course.
