dharmendra-is-new-dg-rpf As Indianmandarins had reported first (see web-Link below) on July 07 finally, Dharmendra Kumar (IPS:1984:UT), from among three names on the panel, emerged victorious and appointed to the post of Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF); a post which had been facing legal wrangle for more than a month. Indianmandarins reliably learnt that he took charge immediately after the order to this effect was issued late evening today. The post fell vacant on June 30 following the retirement of erstwhile DG Surendra Kumar Bhagat (IPS:1982:UD). Prior to this he served as Special Director General, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He held several important posts as Special Police Commissioner, Delhi Police and further as DGP, Mizoram. In addition to Dharmendra; Sunil Sinha (IPS:1983), Special Director IB and Deepak Mishra (IPS:1984:UT), Special DG, CRPF were also on the panel for the post. The RPF cadre has constantly put the NaMo administration under pressure through petitions in higher judiciary claiming that the RPF top post should be encadred only for RPF cadre as they are firmly footed into the railway network and have the lifetime experience in handling railway security. On the other hand, the IPS cadre strongly advocated that the pan-Indian nature of Railway Security asked for coordination with not only with all the states but intelligence agencies to share inputs for security purposes. The IPS cadre claimed that keeping in view the nature of Railway security and protection, the exposure and experience of IPS officers made them fit for the top job.
