New Delhi (13.06.2025): Putting an end to speculations of extension to Sanjay Arora the incumbent Police Commissioner of Delhi, the government of NCT of Delhi announced that he will stand retired from Government service w.e.f. 31.07.2025 on attaining the age of superannuation i.e. 30.06.2025.
The announcement of his exit marks a significant leadership change in Delhi setting another round of speculations over his likely successors.
A 1988-batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Arora’s exit will mark the culmination of a nearly four-decade-long policing career.
The order to this effect, issued with the approval of Delhi LG V. K. Saxena, has been sent to MHA as the power to appoint or extend the tenure of the Delhi Police chief lies solely with the MHA. Reportedly, the notification is a routine administrative step typically issued two months ahead of the scheduled retirement of All India Service officers.
Sanjay Arora, who took charge as Delhi’s CP 01.08.2022, was the third officer from outside the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre to lead the city’s police, after Ajay Raj Sharma and Rakesh Asthana. Prior to his appointment as CP Delhi Arora served as DG, ITBP.
