The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet on Thursday cleared the proposal for giving additional charge of Coal India post to Suresh Kumar (IAS:1986:JK) till the Govt appoints a regular Chairman. Suresh Kumar currently serves as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal. Kumar will be retiring on 31 May 2019.
Gopal Singh (CMD, CCL) had been holding the charge since September last year and one and a half month ahead of completion of extended tenure he was relieved from the charge.
Surprisingly, recommendation made by Search-cum-selection-Committee (SCSC) is witnessing inordinate delay in ACC ratification.
It may be mentioned that full time chairman of Coal India, Sutirtha Bhattacharya retired on August 31 following which Gopal Singh (CMD, CCL) was made the temporary chairman of CIL. Later in Novemebr 2017 Coal Ministry constituted SCSC to find Bhattachayra's successor which conducted interview in March 2018.
