The flop show on critical government appointments continues to haunt the administration and run down the economy.

 

The PESB has lost its edge for want of a Chairman and two members. At present, it is left with a single member, Madhusudan Prasad (Retd IAS:1980: HY).

 

Therefore, following the completion of fixed tenure of Ms. Gauri Kumar (Retd IAS:1979: GJ) on September 28, the selection of Board-level positions for PSEs has come to a standstill threatening production and productivity in several PSUs.

 

Further, the Competition Commission of India is awaiting its new Chairman. A Member post is, too, falling vacant next month vice Sudhir Mittal (Retd IAS:1981: PB).

Even the food regulator FSSAI is headless. Further, over a dozen senior posts are lying vacant in CBI. The government's breadwinner, CBDT, has been working through depleted strength for months. Four posts, out of seven, have been lying vacant there.

 

Similarly, there are only six Information Commissioners (ICs) working in the CIC against a sanctioned strength of 10.
