After the court evacuated
stay on the arrest of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar (IPS:1991:WB),
the CBI is now preparing to approach CBI court in West Bengal for the arrest
warrant against him. The CBI claims Kumar
untraceable as he has ignored two consecutive CBI summons following which CBI
wrote to DGP, Chief Secretary and State Home Secretary about Kumar’s
whereabouts. Kumar, who is wanted for
questioning in the Saradha scam, had responded to the first CBI summons after
the Calcutta High Court rejected his plea seeking protection from CBI arrest. Kumar had then requested the
CBI to grant him a month’s time to appear before it but the agency refused. He
has since been off the radar. Kumar was part of a SIT that probed the Saradha
scam before the Supreme Court handed over the case to the CBI in 2014.
