CBI corners former Kolkata Police Commissioner

The CBI has sought arrest warrant against former Kolkata police commissioner Rajiv Kumar as Tom and Jerry chase between the CBI and Kumar is continuing from long. Meanwhile, the CBI has accused him of suppressing evidence required for preparing final charge sheet in Saradha scam case. He has been asked to appear before CBI on September 20.

As claims CBI Kumar has not only been ignoring summons but evading arrests as well so the investigation agency had sent letters to West Bengal DGP, CS and HS to help trace Kumar. The CBI wants his custody as it will not only help gather more evidences about Saradha scam but it has also some political implications as well in a state where the saffron party at the Centre has an eye.

Officially Kumar is on leave till September 25. CBI conducted searches at various locations across Kolkata looking for Kumar in connection with Saradha scam

CBI to approach court; arrest haunts IPS Rajeev Kumar

By IndianMandarins 16 Sep 2019

After the court evacuated stay on the arrest of former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar (IPS:1991:WB), the CBI is now preparing to approach CBI court in West Bengal for the arrest warrant against him.

The CBI claims Kumar untraceable as he has ignored two consecutive CBI summons following which CBI wrote to DGP, Chief Secretary and State Home Secretary about Kumar’s whereabouts.

Kumar, who is wanted for questioning in the Saradha scam, had responded to the first CBI summons after the Calcutta High Court rejected his plea seeking protection from CBI arrest.

Kumar had then requested the CBI to grant him a month’s time to appear before it but the agency refused. He has since been off the radar. Kumar was part of a SIT that probed the Saradha scam before the Supreme Court handed over the case to the CBI in 2014.

Anuj Sharma, a 1991 batch IPS officer, has taken over from Rajeev Kumar as the new police chief of Kolkata. Earlier, he was the Additional Director General (law and order) of West Bengal Police.

Rajeev Kumar, who was questioned by the CBI in connection with the Saradha and Rose Valley scam cases, was transferred as Additional Director General (ADG) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime Investigation Department or CID. He was the police chief of Kolkata for three years and his transfer was due before the general elections scheduled in May.

The change of guard in Kolkata Police comes just days after Rajeev Kumar returned from Shillong, after a five-day grilling by the CBI in the chit fund scam.

CBI and Kumar to face off each other in Shillong today

By IndianMandarins 09 Feb 2019

The CBI and Kolkata police commissioner Rajiv Kumar may face off each other in Shillong today on February 9. Both of them will be exposed to each other's capability in mental maneuvering. What may eventually come out from their face-off would be keenly watched not only by millions of duped investors of subterranean chit funds that have for decades been flourishing in the eastern part of the country but the nation as a whole. The reason for the country's interest in the latest political drama is the criminal nexus between most of these chit funds and political demagogues.

Meantime, in the continuing battle between the central and state government, Bengal police raided the offices of Angela Mercantile Pvt Ltd in search of finding some 'dirt' about former interim CBI chief M Nageswara Rao. What the state police discovered isn't known. But Rao quickly issued a press statement, detailing his wife and her cousin's legitimate transactions with the company. He added in the statement that these transactions were duly notified to the competent authority.

Further, state chief minister Mamta Banerjee escalated her war of words with the central government. Speaking on the sidelines of Bengal Global Business Summit, she refuted the Centre's charge that certain IPS officers had participated in her dharna and insisted that the officers were present at the protest venue to oversee security. "I will give these five senior officials the highest state honor 'Bangabibhusan' if the Centre takes back their medals. Also, I will send a strongly-worded letter, if they send me one," Banerjee said.
