IAS officer served show-cause notice for his tweet

The Karnataka government has issued a show-cause notice to IAS officer Mohammad Mohsin (IAS:1996:KN) over his recent tweet about coronavirus-cured Tablighi Jamaat members donating plasma for the treatment of other patients.

The officer was in the news last year as well after Election Commission suspended him for trying to inspect PM’s helicopter during his visit to Odisha in April where he was deployed as a poll observer.

Mohsin tweeted: “More than 300 Tablighi Heroes are donating their plasma to serve the country in New Delhi only. What about? #Godi Media? They will not show the works of humanity done by these heroes.”

Mohsin is currently serving as a Secretary in the Backward Class Welfare Department. The state government said the show cause notice has been issued to the officer in connection with his recent tweet.

Has it all gone for a 1983 batch IAS officer?

If top sources are to be believed, a retired IAS officer belonging to 1983 batch lost the brighter prospect of a post-retirement assignment at the Centre and state both. Reportedly, the right hand of the top decision-maker recently made it a case to be considered seriously. Ever since the regional media made a wide coverage against the officer it is believed as if the same would have a sort of NoC from the top for coverage.

Power corridors perplexed over Swami’s tweet: Who dominates PMO?

By IndianMandarins 02 Mar 2020

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has always something unique and witty to offer via his inimitable tweets. As usual, his tweet today reads “The PMO today is dominated by officials who have an anti-Hindutva mind-set. Some in PMO are in touch with Sharad Pawar and his daughter. The targeting of officials who are patriotic and want to prosecute the corrupt has begun.”

People in power corridors are perplexed about the officials Swami is referring to in this tweet that has gone viral. Highly-placed sources confide that raising doubts over officials in PMO is something tactful and ingenious as in the NaMo regime no one other than the PM Modi himself calls the shots. The irrepressible veteran politician is probably hinting at diluting of Hindutva ideology and growing proximity of Modi with old warhorse Sharad Pawar.

Former DIG, a serving DSP held guilty for abetting family for suicide

By IndianMandarins 18 Feb 2020

A former DIG, a serving DSP and four others have been held guilty by a local court in a 2004 case in which a family of five had committed suicide, blaming the accused for the extreme step. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on February 19. Former DIG Kultar Singh was posted as the Amritsar senior superintendent of police while DSP Hardev Singh held the charge of an inspector in 2004 when the committed suicide.

Hardip Singh along with his wife, mother and two children, had taken some poisonous substance on October 31, 2004. Before taking the extreme step, the entire family had written a suicide note on the walls of a room of their house. They also sent copies of the suicide note to their friends and some known people by post.

The family had directly blamed Kultar Singh for the extreme step. The Amritsar police had registered a case in 2004 when public pressure mounted but the accused were not arrested then. In 2009, Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) activist Sarabjit Singh Verka took up the matter before a local court and sought justice for the victims while alleging that the local police was not probing the case properly.

Rajkot Bonanza: Media houses get something for doing nothing?

By IndianMandarins 03 Feb 2020

In a very intriguing manner cheques of Rs 50 thousand each have been issued to eight media houses by Rajkot collector without publishing any advertisement causing an embarrassment to the state government. However the district administration brush the matter aside by saying consider the money as affection for good Republic Day coverage.

Apparently the administration did not check if the advertisement was published or not but issued the cheque but when media houses approached the administration for the same, the answer of the district administration was astonishing. However, the commissioner is taking about inquiring about the matter as he was unaware of the development. Another officer was of the view that if any media house has any issue raise any previous bill against it, the administration would adjust.

A section of bureaucracy is calling it a blatant example of bribery to the media houses as the collector is sticking the ground saying that everything has been done following rules and regulations. The most unfortunate part of it is that everyone is speaking different voices.

LG Vs CS: Rift mars crucial decision

By IndianMandarins 27 Jan 2020

Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the rift between a newly appointed Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary has engulfed several crucial decisions. If some well-placed sources are to be believed, working style of CS remains unchanged but the only thing that has changed is the constitutional post now has a new person in place. The CS has been known for enjoying his own terms.

Obviously, there is a vast difference in the outlook and working style of a political person and a bureaucrat on a constitutional position. The affairs appeared fine till a political person occupied the position but rift started falling out of sync after two persons from the same framework started working together.

Ministers’ over indulgence in bureaucratic affairs?

By IndianMandarins 21 Jan 2020

Apparently Haryana Govt is at present facing a unique case. State Home Minister Anil Vij has sought disciplinary action against state CID chief by writing a letter to state Home Secretary. The minister has demanded that state CID chief Anil Kumar Rao (IPS:1984:HY) to be replaced by Shrikant Jadhav (IPS:1984:HY), which may happen.

This is actually being looked upon as tug of war between Vij and CM Manohar Lal. Though Vij did not disclose what information he had sought but this was not the first time when he had shown his displeasure over working of CID.

He had announced setting up a three-member panel headed by state home secretary Vijai Vardhan to suggest ways to improve working of the department. The minister had also expressed his dismay for keeping him out of loop while CM’s flying squad undertook surprise checks at offices of the Regional Transport Authority offices.

Haryana CM recently said that CID remained under the CM’s charge during terms of Bansi Lal and Devi Lal, an assertion that appeared to counter the home minister's claim over the department.

Vij had taken exception to two state government websites that showed that the CID was held by Khattar. "Governments are not run by websites. They are run by the rule of law," Vij said.

On being asked if grounds were being prepared to take away the CID from him, Vij said, "The CM is supreme. If he wants to divide a department, he can do that; if he wants to take away a department, he can do that. I never raised any objection to this."
