bsp-prepares-list-of-candidates-for-next-year-up-polls Uttar Pradesh's principal opposition Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is said to have finalised the list of candidates for over 400 seats for next year's Assembly polls. The list is said to include the names of about 100 Muslims and 50 Brahmins. Several sitting SP MLAs are also likely to be among the probable nominees. In 2012 Assembly polls, BSP had given tickets to 88 SC candidates, 113 OBC, 85 Muslims and other religious minorities. A total of 117 tickets were given to upper castes, of which maximum 74 were for Brahmins and 33 for Kshatriyas. However, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Mayawati had not fielded a single Dalit in UP except for the mandatory reserved constituencies. Recently, the SP had made public the list of nominees for 143 Assembly seats. While the BJP had secured 73 of the 80 seats in 2014 (including two of its ally, Apna Dal), the BSP, without any seat, had still managed 19.7 per cent of the total votes in UP. Its 1.5 crore votes were just around half of the BJP's 3.3 crore, and almost three times more than the 58 lakh votes polled by the Congress.
