The Bihar government may pick up one of the
three names recommended by the UPSC for appointment as the DGP. The state DGP K S Dwivedi, who took charge on
March 1 last year, is scheduled to retire today on Thursday. So the speculation
is rife about his successor. It is learned that the UPSC board met on
Monday and Tuesday to shortlist the three names for the post from a list of 13
names sent by the state government. Rajesh Ranjan (1984 batch), Kumar Rajesh
Chandra (1985 batch), Rakesh Kumar Mishra (1986 batch), Sunil Kumar (1987
batch) and Gupteshwar Pandey (1987 batch) figured in the list of senior DGs
sent by the state government to UPSC. Ranjan is presently the DG of CISF while
Chandra was appointed the DG of SSB on January 8. After Ranjan and Chandra
expressed their inabilities to hold the post of state DGP in view of their
current assignments, the choice has narrowed down to three senior-most officers,
among whom Mishra tops the list.
