New Delhi (06.05.2026): After accomplishing ‘Mission West Bengal’, the central BJP leadership is now working on to finalise names of ministers in the Bihar government, new team of National president of the BJP Nitin Nabin, the new chief Minister of West Bengal and his cabinet and formation of the Assam government most likely under Himanta Biswa Sarma. But the most important deliberation that the central BJP leadership has to do is on purported cabinet reshuffle of the Narendra Modi government. Some of these decisions have a particular time frame, some will be decided considering politically suitable time and some may be done to surprise the opposition.
Cabinet reshuffle on cards
The Cabinet reshuffle of the Modi government is linked to many other decisions that the party has to take some on time bound manner while some other on their sweet will. Some leaders may be accommodated in the state governments, some may become part of the organisation and some other may get chance in the cabinet. It can be said differently that an attempt will be made to accommodate leaders in the new cabinet from the states where elections are due in 2027. Burden of some of the ministers is likely to be eased out, some new induction may happen and some may be dropped to work for the organisation.
The new Bihar cabinet
The Bihar cabinet is not yet finalised which was deferred due to Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory and also possible reshuffle in the Modi cabinet. It is likely that the BJP may get 12 cabinet berths while JD (U) may 11. The other Bihar allies may get one ministers each in the Samrat Choudhary government. Choudhary has visited Delhi last week to discuss names of minister likely to be part of his cabinet but he was returned as the central leadership was busy in Assembly elections.
The new Central BJP team
The new BJP president Nitin Nabin will get a new team of office bearers, spokespersons, Morcha heads and chiefs of various cells. This is a very long list from vice presidents to general secretaries to secretaries to spokesperson and one treasurer besides other. There is a very little chance of names of office bearers getting repeated except a few. There were chances of Ram Madhav being appointed as one of the general secretaries but the way he criticised foreign policy of the government in the US during his visit for which he later apologised, his induction in Nabin’s team becomes little doubtful.
The First BJP CM of West Bengal
Though the name of Suvendu Adhikari is the front runner for the post of West Bengal Chief Minister but nothing can be said with certainty. However, the experiment of the Central leadership in the cases of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan failed. Chief Ministers of these two states have failed miserably. So, such experiment may not be done in West Bengal and Adhikari seems to be the natural choice with the party fielding him from two constituencies and he has won both the seats even against incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. There is no doubt about his contribution in the success of the BJP in the state. So, he is likely to be rewarded for his hard work.
The Third consecutive BJP govt in Assam
Himanta Bishwa Sarma is the most natural choice as the Chief Minister of the state for managing the third consecutive victory of the BJP in the state with the increased number of seats. Braving sensational allegations against his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma for allegedly having three passports and procuring Golden Visa, Sarma managed the election very well. The self-goal helped him immensely. He is implementing policies that the Centre wants from him to be implemented as North-East is the focus area of the Centre as well. Sarma is very helpful to the central leadership in other north-eastern states too.
Fate of MP and Rajasthan hang in balance
The central leadership is not happy with chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan but any knee jerk reaction may harm the BJP politically. The BJP will think twice before removing a Yadav and a Brahmin chief minister. Brahmins are already angry with the BJP and may harm the party in Uttar Pradesh where elections are due in 2027 and same may happen in case of Yadav CM. The BJP is working to win over the community to make Akhilesh Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav redundant. The BJP may defer decision on them with running the government with bureaucrats in these states to wait for the opportune time to take any action.
