New Delhi (10.08.2024): The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Lok Sabha and referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) which has to submit its report during the next session of Parliament. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, provides for the renaming of the Waqf Act, 1995, as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995 (UMEED).
A 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee including 21 Lok Sabha MPs and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs has been constituted to look into the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 who will look into the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Interestingly, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress MP Imran Masood too have been included in the committee.
