March had only one vacancy but April promises to be a month full of opportunities for 1982 batch IAS officers who are waiting in the wings to get Secretary level postings. Currently, 12 officers empanelled as Secretary are serving at the centre as Special Secretary. As many as five secretaries are scheduled to retire on April 30: Sunil Arora (IAS:1980:RJ), I&B Secretary; A K Angurana (IAS:1980:J&K), Secretary Animal Husbandry; R P Watal (IAS:1978:AP), Secretary Expenditure; and Ms Kusumjit Sidhu (IAS:1979:PB), Secretary Department of Justice. In addition, the appointment of Secretary for Department of Rural Development is also expected to take place this month which has been pending since February 29.
