Patna (20.08.2025): Anand Mishra (Retd IPS: 2011: AM), who
had taken voluntary retirement (VRS) and unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha
elections, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. Mishra was
inducted into the party in the presence of state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal
and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha. After taking voluntary retirement, he had sought a BJP
ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Buxar, but the party denied
him a ticket. He later claimed that Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma
assured him of ticket. Subsequently, he contested as an independent candidate
but failed to make a mark. He later briefly associated with political
strategist Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party. Addressing the media after joining the BJP, Mishra stated
that he was joining the party to promote its ideology and not for a ticket.
However, sources within the BJP indicate that he is a strong contender for a
ticket from the Buxar constituency in the upcoming assembly elections. His
previous unsuccessful attempt as an independent candidate from the same
constituency, where he reportedly garnered a significant number of votes, is
seen as a factor in his favour. ALSO READ LS Elections 2024: Bureaucrats who missed the bus (25.04.2025) Fate of IPS officer in limbo as he misses ticket for LS Pols (28.03.2024) IPS officer resigns to pursue social and personal goals (27.12.2023)
