New Delhi (06.05.2025):Executive Director at the World Bank Parameswaran Iyer has been temporarily entrusted with the responsibility of being India's nominee director on the board of International Monetary Fund (IMF) ahead of crucial May 9 meeting. This is in view of Pakistan trying to secure IMF loan.
Iyer's nomination was necessary to fill the vacancy due to termination of K V Subramanian as the Executive Director of IMF six months ahead of his three-year tenure.
This decision is significant as the IMF Executive Board will meet on May 9 to take a decision on $ 1.3 billion loan under climate resilience loan programme along with the first review of the ongoing $7 billion bailout package for Pakistan. India is trying to corner Pakistan diplomatically at several global fora following Pahalgam terror attack.
