New Delhi (03.05.2025): The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has terminated the services of Dr Krishnamurthy V Subramanian who is currently on foreign assignment as Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since November 01, 2022.
Dr Subramanian had replaced DrSurjit S Bhalla who worked as Executive Director, IMF for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Bhalla was a member of think tanks like the Policy Group in New Delhi and the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
Though reasons for termination of Dr Subramanian’s services are not yet known. It may be noted that he was the youngest Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India who served from 2018 to 2021. He is the author of the bestseller India@100. He also authored path-breaking Economic Surveys on Ethical Wealth Creation for a prosperous India (2019-20), the Strategic Blueprint for India to become a $5 trillion economy (2018-19), and the post-Covid economy using public capital expenditures in infrastructure and healthcare to further counter-cyclical fiscal policy (2020-21). He was a professor at the Indian School of Business and was conferred the Distinguished Alumnus award by his alma maters IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Calcutta. A Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, Prof Subramanian’s research in banking, law and finance, innovation and economic growth, and corporate governance were published in the world's leading journals.
