New Delhi (25.06.2025): The nine-month-long extended tenure of Ravi Agrawal (IRS IT: 1988) as Chairman, CBDT will be ending in the next four days. This has triggered a buzz whether he would hang his boots or his contract would be renewed.
A section of sources says that ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, he may be given three months’ extension. Another section of sources believes that Ravi Agrawal is known for his anonymity and forthrightness and thus it is difficult to rule out the possibility of another extension.
Need for the extension?
It is understood that the Income-Tax Bill, 2025, introduced in Lok Sabha on February 13, 2025, would draw attention in the Monsoon Session as it had been referred to the Select Committee of the House. In view of the same, the Board may need continuity at the top necessitating his extension.
