The sudden exit plan of Vijayalaxmi Joshi (IAS:1980:GJ) has surprised many top bureaucrats. Ms Joshi, the incumbent Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has applied for VRS which will, reportedly, be effective from October 31 this year. Though she still had three years to go before retirement. Her colleagues in bureaucracy indicate that her move has emanated from genuine personal reasons but power corridors do not deny professional reasons behind the same. It is also believed that she may not be happy the portfolio given by the Modi Govt.
Prior to her posting as Secretary Ms Joshi served in GoI as Additional Secretary, Commerce as Additional Secretary. Her husband G P Joshi (Rtd IAS:1978:GJ), after opting VRS in 2008, had moved back to his ancestral place in Uttarakhand chasing his personal and spiritual pursuits.
