why-did-ec-ask-former-ips-to-leave-officeThe State Election Commission (Karnataka) has asked former IPS officer Kempaiah, CM Siddaramaiah's close associate and political advisor to the Home Minister, to leave the office for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. The state's Chief Election Officer Sanjay Kumar has written to the Election Commission of India that it was against the model code of conduct to let Kempaiah continue to perform his duties. The reason dates back to then CEC O P Rawat's visit to Bengaluru to review preparedness for the Assembly elections. Former PM HH Deve Gowda had complained to the CEC accusing Kempaiah of misusing government machinery in the elections and apprehended that Kempaiah's continuance in the office was causing hindrance to the holding of free and fair Assembly polls.
