Lucknow (27.01.2026): When the issue of Swami Avimukteshwaranand snowballed after he was stopped by the administration to go the Sangam on his palanquin in the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj, the Yogi government was left alone to defend itself. No BJP leader including battery of party spokesperson has come out to defend him, on the contrary Deputy Chief Minister Kesav Prasad Maurya apologised to Shankaracharya. The missing support to the Yogi government may be for the BJP not wanting to make it a political issue. The other reason could be differences between Lucknow and Delhi but the message has not gone down well. The issue is being equated with ‘Chanakya’ story as videos of disciple of Shankaracharyas being dragged by their Shikha have gone viral.
