UP election: Disaster for BJP may be around corner

up-election-disaster-for-bjp-may-be-around-corner  The law of diminishing return has come to haunt BJP President Amit Shah's UP electoral strategy and tactics as badly as it did during the Bihar election. He seems to be happily oblivious of a cardinal fact of life - that, in love and war, nothing goes as planned. In Bihar, he planned his electoral stragey on the flawed principle that Lalu, Nitish, and Rahul couldn't join hands and form an alliance to defeat him. The results, therefore, didn't surprise anyone. In UP, he has done the same thing again: he moved on the assumption that both Akhilesh and Rahul couldn't join hands. Since they have joined hands against the wishful thinking of Shah, the Islamists of UP have found an alliance to rally around and vote with a vengeance. The BJP, on the other hand, goes without an alliance; and this could make it win only in an exceptional situation like the one that prevailed in 2014. And if it thinks that Behenji would walk away with slice of Islamist vote bank by virtue of having fielded a large number of Islamists, it would survive badly mauled to realize that it, too, was a flawed assumption. One doesn't deal with a real-life situation on the basis of assumptions but by working the reality. 2017 is not 2014. Three years ago, people were sick and tired of self-proclaimed liberals, socialists, and Red Comrades who were seen steeped into corruption and barking at the Hindus all the time telling them that they were communalists. While three years later, the central government is not scandalized by scams and the larger Hindu community finds that it's no longer being cursed at the drop of a hat, it finds that the BJP continues to play the games of Hindu Islamophils of dividing them on the basis of their caste, community and clan. Despite warnings from the Sangh, BJP leaders have found little time to unify the Dharmic people by using better and efficient tools of feasible and workable economics. Agriculture, for instance, remains at the bottom list of priority of the BJP High Command. Double and triple taxation of already taxed income remains another area calling for urgent reforms. The list is almost inexhaustible. And the Union Budget 2017-18 shows how intellectually bankrupt are BJP's financial and commercial brains on roasting the fat pigs and feeding them to the economy. If Generals start congratulating themselves before the war is won, one must know a grave peril is about to hit. And lo and behold, this is what BJP leaders were seen doing when one TV channel came , like a ditto repeat of the Bihar story, with its UP election forecast, giving BJP a majority. Possibly for the sake of propaganda they agreed with the forecasted results. But it takes no time for a weak mind to start believing in its own propaganda. While the situation on the ground remains slippery, extremely slippery, for BJP - look at the ever-surging wave of internal feud in its ranks, no clarity about its leadership much less about its policies and programs, and a contemptuous indifference to the plight of peasants and farmers, the party has plunged into a celebratory mode as if it had already won the election.
