New Delhi (09.07.2025): If well-placed sources are to be believed, Giridhar Aramane, the former Defence Secretary of India, is being considered for the position of Chairperson at the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). Aramane, a 1988-batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, retired as Defence Secretary in October 2024. The top position in IRDAI has been lying vacant since March this year.
The appointment of the new IRDAI Chairperson is crucial, especially with the Insurance Amendment Bill 2025 expected to be tabled in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, proposing significant reforms like 100% Foreign Direct Investment in the insurance sector.
Though other potential candidates for the IRDAI Chairperson position include M Nagaraju (1993), Ajay Seth, Pankaj Jain (1989) and Sriram Taranikanti (1992).
