New Delhi (18.06.2025): Recently, the ACC made a twist on the appointment of a senior IAS officer that led to another ad hoc arrangement for the ministry.  The senior IAS officer slated to take over as a Union Secretary got a new assignment in the same premises in the rank of Secretary to the Govt of India. It was believed that it was just another such instance that occurred in the recent past but the latest buzz suggests that this mid-way change has happened by choice instead of ACC’s own call. 
Whatever the facts are whether by a choice or fate, this is causing apprehensions among IAS officers waiting to succeed senior most Union secretaries in the coming weeks and months. 
Several instances that occurred in the recent past have underscored it yet again that things can go wrong at any moment even when success seems certain. Senior IAS officers getting Secretary-level postings much in advance are now apprehensive and susceptible until they take over.
