tripti-becomes-first-cmd-of-spmcil-post-demonetisationUntil Tuesday, it was a mystery. Officials have been long wondering why the Govt was delaying the selection and appointment of a regular incumbent/CMD for Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Limited. Indeed, officials were amazed that this critical post remained vacant through DeMo/ReMo. It may be recalled that the post has been vacant for almost two years after MS Rana, the then CMD of the currency printing CPSE (SPMCIL), was removed on 16 July 2016, approx. About 100 days ahead of the launching of the DeMo/ReMo exercise, the ACC headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made Pravin Garg (IAS:1988: MP) as the interim head of SPMCIL till the appointment of a regular incumbent. And finally, Ms. Tripti P Gosh became its CMD after a long gap of over two years. So, there was a sigh of relief on Tuesday when the appointment of Ms. Ghosh as CMD of SPMCIL was announced. But at the same time, the move triggered a sense of anxiety among CPSE officials. The latter consider it highly demoralizing that another top PSU post has been grabbed by a civil servant. They suspect that this continuing trend of civil servants occupying prestigious CPSE posts may help bring even the vacant post of Coal India CMD to the kitty of civil servants. Their apprehension may not seem to be out of place.
