New Delhi (28.07.2026): As Indianmandarins reported on July 1, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved extension in tenure of Satish Kumar (Retd IRMS: 1986) as Chairman & CEO, Railway Board for a further period of one year w.e,f. 01.09.2026 on contractual re-employment basis. He has been given extension in relaxation of the Indian Railway (Selection to Senior Posts) Rules, 2025.

This is second extension for him as the NaMo administration had extended his tenure for a period of one year on a contract basis which became effective from September 1, 2025. He has been serving as Chairman & CEO since 01.09.2024 and now he will continue till 31.08.2027.

As the incumbent government is known not only for shielding steady hands with extensions but also for actively curating substantial post-retirement landing pads, the political leadership was keeping a close tab on the retirement date of Railway Board chief.
