Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu K Shanmugam (IAS:1985:TN) has been given three month’s extension till October 31, 2020. The Centre has communicated this to the TN government on June 3. Shanmugam assumed the office of CS on July 1, 2019 and was to retire on July 31, 2020. But, in view of COVID-19 pandemic his term has been extended. There are 25 senior IAS officers of Additional Chief Secretary rank in the Tamil Nadu government including those who are on deputation to the Centre. The process for selection of the next Chief Secretary is likely to begin after a couple of months since the state is preoccupied with COVID-19 related work.
