June seems to offer a rather limited opportunity for career enhancement for the 1982 batch IAS officers. There are seven officers of this batch (four posted in Govt of India) waiting for posting to a Secretary rank post and a few others are waiting for review-empanelment. It's a moot point, though, how many of them could get promoted to the secretary-rank this month.
Four officers, empanelled as Secretary, are currently serving at centre and though four posts are available, opportunities seem to be limited. Departments like Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Rural Development and PMO have certain vacancies; DOPT, too, will have a vacancy on June 30. Surely, DOPT and PMO posts would be filled according to the direction of PMO. The post of Dept of Rural Development secretary has been kept vacant probably for a specific officer. The only slot seems to be available for an officer is the Dept of ARPG which, by the way, is not part of coveted postings.
