There is a common perception that while making appointments to top posts, the NaMo administration tends to collect comprehensive feedbacks from seniors, juniors, peers and clients that make or mar a career. Even as this has been causing sleepless nights for 1984 and 1987 batch IAS & IPS officers who are next in line for empanelment as Secretary and Additional Secretary or DGs and ADGs in Govt of India, the government's obvious departure from the 360 degree evaluation method has become too glaring to be ignored.
Recently, the IAS fraternity mounted a campaign in favour of former Coal Secretary HC Gupta who is facing trial in the coal scam cases.Similarly, G K Dwivedi (JS, MHA) has also received overwhelming support from his colleagues both in IAS and IPS. It is argued that if the 360 degree method is the anchor of evaluation of officials by the administration, then it should, logically, also apply to Gupta and Dwivedi who are voted by one and all as officers of unimpeachable integrity and efficiency.
