HRD Minister Smriti Irani last week launched a new scheme, Vidyanjali, to improve the quality of education through community participation. Indianmandarins has learnt that the idea to launch the scheme had been forwarded by the PMO on the basis of a successful scheme in MP. A programme, called Vidyadan, was started by Indore Collector Sanjay Dubey last year and is being implemented in eight districts currently.
Another similar scheme, also named Vidyadan, was launched in 2010 in Kanpur by the then Collector Mukesh Meshram. That scheme prompted several people to come and teach voluntarily in government schools.
