What is cooking between the BJP and the SP? This question has been on the front burner ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Mulayam Singh Yadav for not joining the Congress Party in disrupting Parliament. And after the SP withdrew from the Grand Alliance for contesting the Bihar assembly elections, the JD(U) and the RJD were quick to hint at some kind of tacit understanding between NaMo and MSY. However, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav scotched the speculations, stating that the BJP and the SP subscribed to different ideologies. He asked party workers to remain cautious of the BJP. Irrespective of the kind of relationship between the two parties, the fact remains that the NaMo government is positively inclined towards UP and its government; and it is reflected in the large number of UP towns brought under the smart cities programme. And this largess, along with other benefits in the pipeline, will ensure that the SP remains on the right side of the central government. Akhilesh is right; it's 'big politics.'
